This composition was commissioned by a consortium of chamber and wind ensembles. Organized and conducted by Dr. Reed Thomas (Professor of Music, Director of Bands, Middle Tennessee State University), the chamber version was premiered on December 2, 2008 by the Middle Tennessee State University Chamber Winds. The wind ensemble version was premiered on February 6, 2009 by the Middle Tennessee State University Wind Ensemble.
Most of us watch the passage of time by marking calendars, waiting for events to happen, or simply letting it pass us by. I believe this is primarily due to the fact that we do not know, or pay attention to, the amount of time we may have on this Earth. Others know that time and it changes them.
