At the bottom of the sea (about 600 miles northwest of Honolulu, Hawaii), lies the wreck of the Two Brothers, a Nantucket whaling vessel skippered by George Pollard, Jr. Pollard was the ill-fated captain of the whaling ship Essex, which served as the real-life inspiration for Herman Melville's classic novel, Moby-Dick.
As if losing the Essex (after an attack by an enraged sperm whale, drifting for three terrible months, and resorting to cannibalism to survive) wasn't enough, Pollard's bad luck continued aboard the Two Brothers. The ship struck a reef and was lost on his very first voyage.
So begins our tale...
